Empowering the Future: LAN Healthcare Initiatives Collaborate with Youths for Mental Health Awareness

The fight for mental health awareness is gaining powerful momentum, and at the heart of this movement are our youth. Far from being just the beneficiaries of support, young people are stepping into roles of leadership, advocacy, and peer education, proving that they are the primary architects of a healthier, more understanding future.
On June 3, 2026, the LAN Healthcare Initiatives team hosted an inspiring LANYA Club event that highlighted this shift, demonstrating how students are actively dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health through leadership and community engagement.

Youth as Frontline Advocates

The gathering in Abuja brought together bright, passionate students from across the city to focus on mental health, leadership, and personal growth. Participating institutions included:

  • Junior Secondary School, Jabi 1
  • Junior Secondary School, Jabi 2
  • Junior Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3
  • Model Junior Secondary School, Maitama
  • Army Day Junior Secondary, Maitama

These students engaged in critical discussions, transforming from passive observers into active advocates. They are now better equipped to identify mental health struggles within their peer groups and serve as a vital support network for one another.

The Role of LANYA Ambassadors

A major highlight of the day was the official designation of the 2026 LANYA Ambassadors, who have pledged to serve as the voice of mental health awareness in their schools:

  • Sylva Paul (Master LANYA 2026) – Model Junior Secondary School, Maitama
  • Somuadina Splendor (Miss LANYA 2026) – Model Junior Secondary School, Maitama

The student centered their ambassadorship on mental wellness, thus normalizing conversations that were previously considered taboo, proving that youth leadership is the most effective vehicle for social change.

Empowering the next generation means giving them the tools to not only succeed academically but to thrive emotionally. When students lead the conversation on mental health, they create a safe environment that adults often cannot reach.

A Collective Effort

The success of this movement on June 3rd was bolstered by a network of organizations committed to youth empowerment. We extend our sincere gratitude to:
